Silly Science, Bee the Difference This fun, hands-on program inspires youth to appreciate that science is a part of our everyday lives.  it encourages them to ask questions, and to be excited about exploring the world around them.  OSUM has invested in the scientists, innovators and design-thinkers of tomorrow by funding this year’s Silly Science. Learn about pollination and the importance of bees to our environment.  You will build a bee house to encourage solitary bees into your gardens.  We will also plant bee friendly flowers for you to take home.  Find out how you can make a difference in your community by being a nature steward and social leader. Family Connections, a Healthy Start to Summer Having a strong family unit starts with creating the bond.  Many times families may become disconnected within the family unit, and the bond becomes strained.  Family connections are intended to build strong family relationships, share family traditions, and increase awareness in the community.  These programs are intended to build strong family relationships, share family traditions, and increase awareness in the community.  This program is designed for parents to attend with their children. Bounce Back, Emotion Regulation This new summer series gives participants all the skills they need to be resilient and to “bounce back” from difficulties in life.  Each session will feature an interactive learning component followed by fun themed activities and crafts to work on each life skill.  The ability to respond to many emotions in different circumstances is a lifelong skill.  Children will leave with strategies for emotional and sensory self-regulation through emotion board games, journaling and interactive activities. Swing Into Summer, Home Alone and Golfing This program aims to empower youth to feel confident and capable when they are home alone.  We will discuss being responsible when left alone, safe snacking, cyber safety and dealing with friends and siblings.  Cold Lake Fire-Rescue will teach participants about fire safety; a golf pro will teach them some new skills they can then put to the test.  Please bring a nut-free lunch, a water bottle and closed-toe shoes.  A parent or guardian is required to attend the first 45 minutes of the program. Taking responsibility means that we take ownership for our actions and the choices we make.  We will discuss things we can and cannot control, blame, and consequences of not choosing the best behavior.  "The Worst Day of My Life" book will help us relate and understand this skill. What to do When Your Worries Get Too Big This workshop is based on the “What to do When” series of youth workbooks.  They are designed to introduce and exercise practical and healthy coping strategies for a variety of situations and challenges. Bounce Back, Social Relationships This new summer series gives participants all the skills they need to be resilient and to “bounce back: from difficulties in life.  Each session will feature an interactive learning component followed by fun themed activities and crafts to work on each life skill. Today we identify “ingredients” for a friendship pie.  All of our recipes may be different due to our preferences and interests, and that is ok!  We will learn how to make and keep friends, and how to get along with people we do not like.  The book “Enemy Pie” will help us understand what it means to be an enemy and how the character Jeremy became a friend.  In the afternoon, we will bake a pie of our own. Play in the Park Meet a Parent Link Centre Staff at different parks around Cold Lake for fun summer activities!  Play in the sand, kick around the balls, blow some bubbles and enjoy fun summer crafts!  Do not forget to pack a hat, sunscreen, a snack, and bring a water bottle.  Some activities will be messy, bring an extra change of clothes.  Pick up a Play in the Park passport at the Parent Link Centre, collect stickers and enter your name at the Parent Link Centre by August 30th for your chance to win prizes!
