What You Can Dispose of at the Transfer Station

The Cold Lake Regional Transfer Station collects waste materials that are not collected at the curb. Residents may drop items off during regular hours.  Fees may apply.

The following materials are not collected at the curb and must be taken directly to Highway 28 Transfer Station:

  • Furniture
  • Box springs and mattresses
  • Sofas
  • Stoves
  • Fridges and air conditioners (CFCs must be removed prior to drop off at the landfill or additional fees will apply**)
  • Tires (Rims removed)
  • Commercial waste
  • Construction and demolition materials (i.e. concrete, asphalt, wood, shingles, and roofing)
  • Oil (Automotive, containers & filters)
  • Batteries
  • Metal
  • Paint and stain

** Refrigerant gases in refrigerators, air conditioners and freezers cause damage to the ozone layer when released into the atmosphere. To reduce damage, refrigerants need to be collected and reprocessed appropriately. Please refer to the Yellow Pages under “Refrigeration” for CFC removal services. $25.00 fee for refrigerant containing units that do not have a CFC removal tag.

The City of Cold Lake’s Transfer Station has enhanced its services and now accepts “Electronic Waste” or “E-Waste”. An attendant will be available to direct you to the designated E-Waste area. There is no charge for this service.

What can I bring to the Transfer Station as E-Waste?
The following items are accepted as E-Waste:

  • TVs and Monitors less than 30”
  • TVs and Monitors greater than 30”
  • Computers (CPUs) and Servers
  • Laptops, Notebooks, and Tablet Computers
  • Printers, Copiers, Scanners, and Faxes (stand-alone and combination units up to 1,000kg)

The following non-electronic items are also accepted:

  • Paint
  • Tires
  • Batteries
  • Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)

Where do I drop it off?
If you bring E-Waste to the Transfer Station, an attendant will direct you to the designated E-Waste area.

What does it cost to drop these items off?
E-Waste is accepted at no charge.
